General Manager — Janice Ashworth has been with OREC since 2011 and has 10 years of experience in renewable energy. At OREC, she is responsible for business development, project management, and financing. Janice Chairs the Ontario Federation of Community Power Co-operatives, is a member of the Sustainability Committee of the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce, and sits on the Net Metering Working Group of the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association. She co-ordinated the Nova Scotia Sustainable Electricity Alliance and worked in wind energy with the community-owned Colchester-Cumberland Windfield. Her non-profit experience includes community organizing for Ecology Ottawa and promoting solar energy with the Ecology Action Centre. Janice has a Master’s in Environmental Studies from Dalhousie University with a focus on community power structures and policies.
Communications Manager – David Mazur-Goulet brings his diverse experience in communications and marketing to achieve OREC’s important objectives. An Ottawa native, he has held a long time commitment to taking the climate challenge head on. He is actively involved in a new startup called BeetBox Cooperative Farm located in the West end of Ottawa. David sat on the Board of Directors of the West End Well Cooperative from 2015 to 2016 and he is currently the youth representative for Quebec in the National Farmer’s Union. David holds two diplomas from Algonquin College in Small and Medium Enterprise Management and Green Business Management as well as a certificate from the University of Vermont in sustainable agriculture.
Project Manager – Nate Preston, M.ASc has been passionate about renewable energy since driving a solar car across North America in 2008. He is a founder of Apricity Renewables Inc, an engineering firm that works with stakeholders to bring high quality renewable energy assets online faster and with lower costs. Nate has managed construction engineering on many of the largest solar rooftop portfolios in Canada and brings experience with over 150 commercial rooftop PV projects in Ontario alone. He obtained his Master’s degree from the Queen’s Solar Lab. As a born and raised member of the Ottawa community, he was fortunate to work with Carleton University and Algonquin College to construct a net-zero energy home. Nate is inspired by the strides net-zero energy buildings have taken in the marketplace and believes Eastern Ontario will be a national leader in accelerating their adoption in the built environment.
Technical Manager – Peter Manson has 30 years’ experience as a software developer, network standards author and manager of software development and test teams at several technology companies including Nortel, Cisco, Solace Systems, QNX and Blackberry. He began working in OREC’s Technical Team in 2014 and has since taken on responsibilities relating to monitoring, operations, maintenance and optimization of OREC’s portfolio of solar sites. Peter has a Bachelor of Mathematics degree in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo.
