Solar Panel Project in Orleans Ottawa

The Ottawa Renewable Energy Co-operative and the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) collaborated to bring this 351 kW net-metered solar project online in November 2020. The project generates an average of 268,000 kWh annually.

The Mer Bleue project, along with the Paul-Desmarais installation, is a net metered solar project, supplying the school directly with renewable energy and directly offsetting its monthly electricity demand. OREC has a 50% stake in the project with the school board.

Through their existing joint venture, OREC and CECCE have developed 5 solar projects together atop CECCE schools.

“Students and staff at schools with solar panels can see the system’s benefits for themselves anytime on a screen that displays data including the amount of energy produced. The added value for students is that the panels help them learn about renewable energy through discussion and analysis in class.”

Réjean Sirois, CECCE Director of Education
