Paul-Desmarais Catholic School
Solar Panel Project in Stittsville Ottawa
The Ottawa Renewable Energy Co-operative and the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) collaborated to develop this 286 kW solar system on top of the newly build Paul-Desmarais High School. This net metered project will supply renewable energy to the school, directly offsetting the facility’s monthly electricity bill. To date the system generated an average of 222,000 kWh annually.

OREC brought community capital to this project and owns a 50% stake with the school board. OREC also oversaw project development, installation and commissioning. This process was made more onerous by the COVID’19 pandemic, which hit just as construction was to get underway.
“The Ottawa Renewable Energy Co-op is proud to have realized two more solar projects with the CECCE. Our co-operative members are excited to invest in new solar projects that are projected to help these schools lower their carbon footprint and reduce their overall operational costs. At the same time, we are grateful for the chance to improve the local resilience of the electricity systems in our community.”
